Unspoken is a sweeping historical love story rooted in truth, memory, and courage. Set in post–World War II Japan, the novel follows a young Japanese woman and an American soldier whose lives intersect through chance, letters, and longing. Across cultural divides, earthquakes, and social judgment, Unspoken reveals how love survives when words are limited, distance is vast, and the heart refuses to remain silent.

CK Rochester

Catherine K. Rochester brings a rare blend of analytical discipline and emotional insight to her writing. After more than twenty-five years in high finance as an investment banker, hedge fund manager, and consultant, she stepped away from corporate life to pursue competitive equestrian sport and later became a certified yoga instructor.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Rochester finally found the space to write the story she had carried for decades, one rooted in her family history. Unspoken tells the true story of her American father and Japanese mother, who met in postwar Japan and sustained their relationship through handwritten letters despite cultural and geographic separation.

Born in Izmir, Turkey, and raised across multiple countries before settling in the United States, Rochester’s global upbringing informs her nuanced understanding of identity, belonging, and resilience. She now lives in Virginia with her husband on a horse and cattle farm, where she continues to write stories grounded in truth, memory, and emotional depth.

UNSPOKEN

Unspoken is inspired by a true story of love formed in the fragile aftermath of war. In 1950s Japan, Tomi navigates loss, responsibility, and tradition while working as a waitress in a country still rebuilding itself. When she meets George, an American radio engineer stationed in Tokyo, their connection defies language barriers, social expectations, and political realities.

Separated by oceans and cultures, Tomi and George sustain their bond through handwritten letters translated word by word, each message carrying hope, restraint, and devotion. As earthquakes shake the city and prejudice shadows their future, both must choose between safety and conviction.

Rich with historical detail, emotional restraint, and quiet intensity, Unspoken explores identity, sacrifice, and the unseen strength of women who carry love through silence. It is a story about patience, resilience, and the profound power of words written when voices cannot meet.
